Growing Resilience (2025)

This year, Afghan Charity Week is proud to support a powerful initiative in partnership with Afghanaid, aimed at tackling food insecurity and empowering women in some of the most isolated areas of rural Afghanistan.

Through a lightly restricted top-up fund, your donations will directly contribute to an existing programme that focuses on improving food security and creating sustainable livelihood opportunities for vulnerable communities.

What the Project Will Do:

  • Provide greenhouses to women-led, food-insecure households in rural Afghanistan.

  • Deliver hands-on training in greenhouse maintenance, crop cultivation, seed collection, and storage to ensure long-term success and self-reliance.

These greenhouses are much more than farming tools. In a country facing harsh winters, limited access to arable land, and the escalating effects of climate change, greenhouses offer reliable ways to grow crops all year round – even in difficult conditions.

For women, this project opens the door to greater economic independence, allowing them to provide nutritious food for their families, generate income, and gain critical skills that strengthen their role within their communities.

This is not a one-off donation – it is an investment in long-term change. Afghanaid will continue to support recipients beyond the initial setup, providing follow-up guidance and ensuring these women have the tools and confidence to grow their greenhouses into something lasting and impactful.

Why Greenhouses Matter

In rural Afghanistan, where harsh winters and climate change have made traditional farming increasingly difficult, greenhouses offer a lifeline. These structures allow for year-round crop cultivation, helping families grow fresh produce even in colder months. They also make more efficient use of water and space – crucial in areas facing environmental and resource challenges.

For women in particular, greenhouses present more than just food security – they offer a pathway to independence. Women who manage their own greenhouses can generate income, support their families, and gain skills that give them a stronger voice in their communities.
